202 TV Anchor Arrested

Shalva Ramishvili, the anchor of the popular talk show ?Debates? on private television station 202, was arrested on August 27.

No official comments regarding the arrest have been made by law-enforcement agencies yet. However, according to unofficial reports, the case involves alleged extortion.

It is anticipated that Interior Minister Vano Merabishvili will make an official statement later today.

202 TV is the only television in Georgia which airs daily talk shows. From time to time it also produces journalistic investigations.
