Saakashvili Visits Ukraine
Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili will leave for Ukraine on August 18 to participate in the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the International Children’s Center Artek ? a former Soviet camp of Pioneers in Crimea.
This trip comes less than a week after Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko paid an informal visit to Georgia on August 12-14.
Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski and Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus are also expected to join celebrations in Crimea as well.
The four presidents will reportedly discuss the recent initiative of the Georgian and Ukrainian presidents to form a regional coalition of democratic nations.
In an official statement issued on August 16, President of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus welcomed this proposal and said that he will personally discuss initiative with Yushchenko and Saakashvili.
The presidents of Georgia and Ukraine signed a joint declaration in Georgia?s resort town of Borjomi on August 12 calling on leaders of the Black Sea, Baltic and Caspian regions to create a “Community of Democratic Choice.”
