Yushchenko Travels to Georgia’s Regions
Ukrainian President Victor Yushchenko, who is paying an informal visit to Georgia, traveled to Georgia’s mountainous region of Svaneti on August 13.
Before departing for the village of Ushguli in Svaneti, which is known to be the highest continually inhabited place in Europe, the Ukrainian President and his Georgian counterpart Mikheil Saakashvili visited a youth camp in Bakuriani, where a group of Ukrainian students spent a holiday with their Georgian peers.
Yushchenko is also expected to travel to the eastern Georgian region of Kakheti during his three-day visit, which ends on August 14.
The only official part of the visit was the signing of a joint Ukrainian-Georgian declaration on the protection of democracy and freedom. The signing ceremony took place at the Likani governmental residence in Borjomi on August 12.
