Saakashvili Meets Swedish PM
Visiting Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili met with Swedish Prime Minister Goran Persson at the latter?s summer residence in Harpsund on August 1.
?We have gained an important friend in the European Union ? Sweden,? Saakashvili said after the talks.
RFE/RL reported that the Swedish Prime Minister?s spokeswoman, Anna Helsen, said before the talks that the Swedish Prime Minister supports Georgia’s aspirations to join the EU, but stressed that “it is a very long-term prospect.”
After the talks, President Saakashvili said that issues related to conflict resolution were also discussed. The president said that conflicts in Georgia should be solved with the assistance of the European Union, Russia and the United States.
