Bush Grenade Suspect Charged with Security Official’s Murder

The Tbilisi Prosecutor’s Office said on July 22 that Vladimir Arutunian, who is also suspected in tossing a grenade during U.S. President Bush’s speech in May, will be charged with deliberate murder under aggravated circumstances.


This case involves the murder of Zurab Kvlividze, an officer of the Georgian Interior Ministry’s counter-terrorism center, who was killed during the shootout which erupted while the police tried to capture Arutunian late on July 20.


Officials say that criminal charges concerning the grenade tossing incident will be brought against the suspect after the interrogation. Currently the suspect, who was wounded in the shootout with police, is in the Tbilisi Republican Hospital recieving treatment for his wounds.
