Kokoity: Tbilisi Wants to Remove Russian Peacekeepers

President of breakaway South Ossetian Eduard Kokoity, who currently visits Moscow, said at a news conference on June 27, that the Georgian side seeks for withdrawal of the Russian peacekeepers from the conflict zone, RIA Novosti and Interfax news agencies reported.

He said that the presence of Russian peacekeepers in the Abkhazian and South Ossetian conflict zones play “constraining role.”

Kokoity also said that the South Ossetian side counts on its own troops as well. “I have to disappoint some “hawks” in Georgia by saying that we have recently even better trained our troops,” he added.

The South Ossetian leader also called on the international community and Russia to monitor Georgia”s ports of Poti and Batumi, through which, as Kokoity said, Tbilisi delivers new armament.
