EU Official Prioritizes the Rule of Law as Adoption of EU-Georgia Action Plan Looms
Hugues Mingarelli, the European Commission Director for Eastern Europe, who participated in a session of the EU-Georgia Cooperation Committee in Tbilisi, said at a news briefing on June 21 that progress has been observed as a result of implementation of reforms by the Georgian authorities; however Mingarelli also said that much is still to be done in terms of rule of law and independent judiciary.
He said that experts from the EU will launch consultations with the Georgian government over Georgia?s priorities with respect to the EU Neighborhood Policy Action Plan.
The EU officials said that the EU-Georgia Cooperation Committee also discussed the issues related to the settlement of conflicts in Georgia, exclusively ?through peaceful means.?
Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Kakha Sikharulidze, Ambassadors of the European Union member states accredited in Georgia, and representatives of the European Commission also participated in the session of EU-Georgia Cooperation Committee.
