Moscow Agrees to Close Bases ‘Within 2008’

Russia is ready to finalize an agreement over the withdrawal of Russian bases from Georgia and offered to close down these bases in Batumi and Akhalkalaki “within 2008,” Interfax news agency reported quoting Russia’s chief negotiator Igor Savolsky, who arrived in Tbilisi on May 23 for talks with the Georgian side.

“We hope to agree today regarding the stages of the withdrawal of the bases in order to identify when and what should be done [in respect to the pullout process],” Savolsky said.
