Russian MFA: Moscow Agrees to Close Bases ‘Sometime in 2008’
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Alexander Yakovenko said in an information note issued on May 17 that Moscow’s recent proposal envisages the closure of Russia’s military bases in Batumi and Akhalkalaki “within 2008,” meaning that the Russian side is not specifying a exact date.
He said that Georgian and Russian delegations will meet “either in Tbilisi, or in Moscow in nearest future” to discuss this issue.
“No agreement has been reached that the withdrawal will be over before the beginning of 2008,” Alexander Yakovenko said.
