Sokhumi, Tskhinvali Hail Bush’s Calls to Solve Conflicts Peacefully

On May 11 the Foreign Ministers of breakaway South Ossetia and Abkhazia welcomed U.S. President George W. Bush’s statements made during his visit to Georgia about the necessity of resolving conflicts solely through peaceful means.

“The U.S. President made it clear that Georgia should hold peaceful dialogues with its neighbors. I hope the supporters of dangerous military rhetoric will understand that it is in Georgia’s interests to give up threats,” Murat Jioyev, South Ossetian Foreign Minister said, according to the Press and Information Committee of the breakaway region.

“Bush’s statement that the United States will never support the resolution of the Abkhazian and South Ossetian conflicts by force was the most important thing for me,” Sergey Shamba, the Foreign Minister of breakaway Abkhazia said in an interview with the Georgian news agency Interpress on May 11.
