Bagapsh: Abkhazia Status Not Negotiable
President of breakaway Abkhazia Sergey Bagapsh told Interfax news agency on May 10 that the status of Abkhazia is not subject to any negotiations.
?We respect the opinion of the U.S. President [George W. Bush], who welcomed the initiative of the Georgian side to grant autonomy to Abkhazia and South Ossetia, but I would like to remind you that the Abkhaz people has already made its choice at the referendum in favor of independence and this choice should be respected,? Bagapsh said.
At the same time, the Abkhaz leader reiterated readiness for solving disputable issues with Tbilisi through peaceful means.
