EU Wants Closer Ties with Georgia, Ukraine

EU Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso said in the interview with Russian radio station Echo Moskvy on May 9 that the European Union is interested in enhancing relations with Georgia and Ukraine, however added that the issue of their membership in the EU is not currently on the agenda.
 
He said that Georgia and Ukraine are European countries; however the issue of their membership in the EU is not being discussed currently.
