Tbilisi Renews Demilitarization of South Ossetian Conflict Zone
The Georgian side has renewed the demilitarization process in the South Ossetian conflict zone, the press office of the Georgian State Minister for Conflict Resolution Issues reported on May 6.
According to the press office?s information note, this process of demilitarization was ?dragged out? because of heavy weather conditions in the conflict zone.
This process involves the dismantling of concrete fortifications at the checkpoints located in the Georgian villages of Tamarasheni and Ergneti.
?These fortifications have no strategic importance, but they hamper confidence building and development of the peace process,? State Minister for Conflict Resolution Issues Goga Khaindrava said in the information note.
The South Ossetian Press and Information Committee reported on May 6 that the South Ossetian side has also launched demilitarization of those areas of the conflict zone which are under Tskhinvali?s control.
