Abkhaz Leader Hails Military Exercises

President of breakaway Abkhazia hailed the large-scale military exercises held in the unrecognized republic on April 18-21 and said that ?the state should pay more attention to the armed forces – not for war, but for preserving peace for Abkhazia,? Apsnipress news agency reported on April 21.

1500 soldiers and up to 3000 reservists reportedly took part in the military exercises, involving the navy, air force and tank battalions.

?Our reserve forces and regular army demonstrated a high level of combat readiness and good combat skills,? Sergey Bagapsh said on April 21.
