Georgian PM: Uzbekistan Rejects to Participate in GUUAM Summit

Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli, who visited Uzbekistan on April 17-18, told reporters that Uzbekistan will not participate in the upcoming summit of GUUAM leaders, scheduled in Chisinau for April 22.

?The fact that Uzbekistan will not participate in the GUUAM summit will not influence further relationships between Georgia and Uzbekistan,? the Georgian Prime Minister said.

Uzbekistan?s decision was not a surprise, as in recent years Uzbekistan has consistently ignored the GUUAM – a coalition comprised of Georgia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan and Moldova – and actually pulled out from the organization, which was formed, with U.S. backing, in 1997.
