
U.S. Official, Georgian Senior MP Discuss Abkhazia, Energy Security
Visiting U.S. Department of State Senior Advisor for Caspian Basin Energy Diplomacy Ambassador Steven Mann, who is also the Special Negotiator for Nagorno-Karabakh and Eurasian Conflicts, met with Chairman of Georgian Parliamentary Committee on Defense and Security MP Givi Targamadze on Tuesday.
Steven Mann told reporters after the talks that he briefed the Georgian parliamentarian over his recent visit to Sokhumi and subsequent talks with the breakaway region’s leadership, which took place on April 11. He also said that issues related to countries energy security were also discussed during the meeting.
MP Givi Targamadze told reporters after the talks that the U.S. diplomat called on the Georgian authorities to remain cautious while considering the privatization of its gas pipeline systems.
?The following recommendation was voiced [by the U.S. diplomat]: do not take any step that might then pose a threat to Georgia?s energy security,? MP Givi Targamadze told reporters after talks with Steven Mann.
