Bagapsh Comments on Return of IDPs

Abkhaz leader Sergey Bagapsh said at a news conference on March 30, that the return of displaced Georgians should only take place in Abkhazia?s Gali district, adding that only those Georgians who did not fight against Abkhazians in the 1992-93 armed conflict may return to the region, Apsnipress reported.

?People, who fought against our state will not be able [to return] and will not live in this country [Abkhazia],? Sergey Bagapsh said.

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili said at a news conference on March 29, that all displaced persons, despite their nationality, should return to Abkhazia. ?It does not matter whether someone fought or not, everybody from both sides fought there,? Saakashvili added.
