Georgian, U.S. Defense Officials Sign Military Assistance Accord
On March 29 General Wald, a four-star Air Force general and Deputy Commander of U.S. European Command (EUCOM), and Georgian Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces Colonel Levan Nikoleishvili will sign a Terms of Reference Agreement in Tbilisi, formally beginning the Sustainment and Stability Operations Program (SSOP), the U.S. Embassy to Georgia reported.
The SSOP agreement, which is the second large-scale U.S.-funded military assistance program for Georgia, will provide U.S. training for Georgian troops designed to enhance the capabilities of Georgia?s military forces and allowing for their continued support for Operation Iraqi Freedom.
During the visit, General Wald will hold talks with Secretary of the National Security Council Gela Bezhuashvili and Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli to discuss the ongoing military cooperation between the United States and Georgia.
