Ex-Energy Minister Sentenced to 10-Year Imprisonment
The court found former Georgian Energy Minister Davit Mirtskhulava guilty of abuse of office while serving as the Minister from 2000-2003 and sentenced him to ten years of imprisonment on March 30.
Mirtskhulava denies all the accusations against him as politically-motivated.
His lawyer, Eka Beselia, said that Mirtskhulava refused to make a deal with prosecutors and repay the funds which he has allegedly misappropriated, unlike other ex-officials who were arrested but released after they paid large amounts of money.
