Opposition MP Warns of Activation ?of Hostile Foreign Forces?

Leader of the opposition Conservative Party, MP Koba Davitashvili said on February 8 that ?activation of foreign hostile forces? in Georgia is vivid. He said that against this background, his party expresses total support for President Saakashvili despite the party?s opposition stance.

He said that these ?hostile forces? have become active after the terrorist act in Gori on February 1 and death of Prime Minister Zurab Zhvania on February 3.

?It seems that following the Gori blast and Zurab Zhvania?s death, the pressure by hostile forces in Georgia has strengthened. Therefore, on behalf of the Conservative Party, I want to express support to the President of Georgia, whose present mood makes us think that he really is under a lot of pressure,? Koba Davitashvili said at a news briefing on February 8.

Saakashvili?s former ally Koba Davitashvili moved into the opposition one year ago, after he criticized proposed constitutional changes, which boosted the President?s powers at the expense of the Parliament.

MP Koba Davitashvili also commented on speculations which cast doubts over the circumstances of Zhvania?s death. He called for refrain in making any hasty conclusions before the investigation is complete. He said that at this moment he deems both versions ? a tragic accident and a conspiracy – as equally possible.
