President Convenes Emergency Session of Government
Reports say Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili plans to convene an emergency session of the government late in the evening on February 3, following the death of Prime Minister Zurab Zhvania.
According to the unofficial reports, it is most likely that the candidacy of new Prime Minister, which should be nominated within the next seven days, will be discussed.
Saakashvili announced that he will assume the Prime Minister?s duties.
However, according to the Georgian law, in case of the Prime Minister?s resignation or death the President should name any member of the cabinet to assume the PM?s responsibilities, before the new Prime Minister is appointed.
