Georgian MP Warns over Possible Sabotage against Energy Facilities

Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for Defense and Security, MP Givi Targamadze said at a session of the National Security Council on November 19 that Russian reconnaissance units are plotting to sabotage energy facilities in Georgia.

“Groups of South Ossetian saboteurs are being specially set up for this purpose,” Targamadze said.

Georgian Parliamentary Chairperson Nino Burjanadze described the report as “alarming”. “However, I hope that the Russian authorities will take necessary measures to avoid any acts of sabotage in Georgia,” she told reporters after the session of the National Security Council on November 19.

President Saakashvili instructed the relevant agencies to obtain detailed information regarding the issue.

Earlier in October Georgian special forces destroyed an alleged group of South Ossetian saboteurs. According to the Georgian President, only this group was allegedly attacking the high-voltage power transmission lines in Georgia.

Three towers of high-voltage power transmission lines were blown up on October 9-10 in Georgia.
