NATO Hails Georgia’s IPAP
On October 14 the leading Political and Political-Military Committees (PC/PMSC) of NATO considered a draft of the Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP) of Georgia, the Georgian Foreign Ministry reported on October 15.
“The discussion involved NATO member states and the representatives of Georgia. Absolutely all participants welcomed the joint efforts of Georgia and NATO in elaborating the IPAP, appraised highly the draft document and considered it ready for approval. Besides, many delegations expressed their readiness to render concrete assistance to Georgia in the implementation of various tasks under the IPAP,” an information note issued by the Georgian Foreign Ministry reads.
According to the information note, the draft of the IPAP will be submitted to the North Atlantic Council “in the nearest future,” which is assigned to give final approval to the document, after which the implementation process of the Action Plan will start.
A group of experts from NATO is expected to visit Georgia in February-March, 2005 for the provisional assessment of the IPAP implementation process.
The plan, which establishes specific defense reform goals for Georgia, which will be implemented through the help of NATO, was submitted to the organization by President Saakashvili during his visit to Brussels in April.
