Saakashvili: Georgia Held Free and Fair Elections

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili hailed March 28 parliamentary elections as “free and fair.”

“No violence against the opposition parties were reported during their pre-election campaign outside Adjara and this was for the first time in Georgia’s election history,” Mikheil Saakashvili said.

“The elections showed that the Georgian citizens want changes and authorities are ready to carry out these changes and reforms in the country,” he added.

He denied accusation of the opposition parties that the elections were rigged. “If there are doubts, we are ready to cooperate with the opposition parties to find out the cases of fraud. We are ready to appeal a court and to demand annulment of the results in those precincts where rigging took place,” Mikheil Saakashvili said.

He also condemned a protest rally of the Labor Party which took place outside the Central Election Commission.

“Those parties, which condemned a rose revolution now calls people to hit the streets. I am not afraid of these statements,” Saakashvili added.
