Abashidze Back to Adjara
Adjarian leader Aslan Abashidze who visited Moscow last week, returned to the Adjarian capital Batumi late on March 14. Reportedly, he was accompanied by a group of Russian politicians and journalists.
In an interview to the Adjarian television Aslan Abashidze commented upon his arrival regarding the phone conversation with President Saakashvili earlier on March 14.
“He [Mikheil Saakashvili] was extremely categorical and strict,” Aslan Abashidze said and added that the talks with Saakashvili were rather difficult.
Saakashvili set an ultimatum to Adjarian leader Aslan Abashidze and demanded to fulfill the central authorities’ conditions till the evening of March 15.
The President warned Aslan Abashidze that the central authorities would close the region’s airspace, block the port of Batumi and freeze accounts of companies linked to Adjarian leaders.
