Putin Congratulated Saakashvili on Presidency

Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Mikheil Saakashvili on his victory in January 4 presidential elections.

Russian President’s press service reported on January 15, that Vladimir Putin expressed hope “relations between the two countries would develop” in order to serve “stability and security in the Caucasus region.”

Russian President also invited Mikheil Saakashvili to visit Moscow.

Earlier Georgian President-elect, who according to the final results of the elections received more than 96% of votes, expressed dissatisfaction that Russian President was late to congratulate him.

“I have been congratulated by everyone except Putin — Blair, Bush, every leading European figure, all our neighbors,” Saakashvili told the Time on January 10.
