Mikheil Saakashvili of the National Movement party received 96,27% of votes. Inauguration of the newly elect president will be held on January 25.

Other five contenders for the presidential post received less than 3% in total. Temur Shashiashvili, who governed the Imereti region during Shevardnadze’s presidency, gained 1,85%; Roin Liparteliani – 0,26%; Zaza Sikharulidze – 0,24%; Kartlos Gharibashvili – 0,21%; Zurab Kelekhsashvili – 0,1%.

Representative of the opposition Labor Party to the CEC Badri Niauri refused to sign the final protocol of tally, claiming that the voter lists were compiled with violations.
