Russia, Georgia Still Fail to Agree over Disbanding Military Bases

The Moscow talks between Georgian Foreign Minister Tedo Japaridze and First Deputy Chief of the General Staff of Russian Armed Forces Yuri Baluyevsky over pull out of Russian military bases from Georgia yielded no results.

“The Russian side is categorically against the proposals of Georgia over pull out of military bases from Batumi [Adjarian capital] and Akhalkalaki [southern Georgia] within 3 years. This plan is unreal,” Yuri Baluyevsky said in the interview with Russian news agency RIA Novosti on January 8.

The Russian side still insists on a decade-long period for closing down Russian bases in Georgia.
