Saakashvili Says Certain Forces Aim at Disorders before Elections

Presidential candidate Mikheil Saakashvili estimated the today’s attack on the Rustavi 2 television office as an attempt of destabilization on the eve of the presidential elections.

“I think that the attack on Rustavi 2 TV company is a political terror on the eve of the January 4 presidential elections, which aims at disorders in the country. I promise, that the newly elected President will take the severe measures against criminals and terrorists,” Saakashvili told reporters on December 29.

An unknown person fired a rocket-propelled grenade at the Rustavi 2 television office in Tbilisi this morning, as a result of which the building was damaged. No one was injured. 

Interim President Nino Burjanadze also expressed concern over the incident, saying that those involved in attack will be punished.
