Former Influential Governor Wanted for Fraud Allegations

Levan Mamaladze, one of the close allies of ex-President Eduard Shevardnadze and former governor Kvemo Kartli region, is wanted by the Georgian law enforcers, as officials say, ?in order to be interrogated on fraud allegations.?

General Prosecutor Nugzar Gabrichidze said at a special news briefing on December 5 that Levan Mamaladze is a prime suspect in misappropriation of 27 kg of gold from Quartzite Ltd, gold producer company in Kvemo Kartli region.

He is also accused of several other illegal transactions with the state funds.

According to the unofficial reports Mamaladze left for Moscow after Shevardnadze’s resignation.
