Pascoe Delivered U.S. President’s Letter to Shevardnadze
Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Lynn Pascoe met today with ex-President of Georgia Eduard Shevardnadze at the Krtsanisi governmental residence, where the ex-President lives after the resignation.
Lynn Pascoe delivered to Shevardnadze a letter from U.S. President George Bush, in which the U.S. President thanked Shevardnadze for his contribution to the development of democracy in Georgia.
U.S. Ambassador to Georgia Richard Miles also attended the meeting.
The U.S. delegation led by Lynn Pascoe arrived in Tbilisi on December 3 to get acquainted with the current situation in Georgia and review specific assistance proposals for Georgia’s upcoming elections.
Ousted Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze in one of his interviews has accused the U.S. of helping to remove him from power.
Shevardnadze also said in the interview that he suspected the involvement of U.S. ambassador Richard Miles in the recent events in Georgia. Richard Miles was posted to Belgrade before the overthrow of former Yugoslav president Slobodan Milosevic in 2000.
