Bush, Burjanadze Held Phone Conversation

Interim President Nino Burjanadze today held a phone conversation with U.S. President George Bush regarding the recent situation in the country. 

The U.S. President expressed content with peaceful settlement of the political crisis and promised to render assistance in maintaining peace and stability in the country. 

?The United States is interested in free and fair elections in Georgia. We spoke about the grave economic situation in the country and President Bush promised that the United States, as well as international organizations, will assist Georgia in overcoming the existing problems,? Nino Burjanadze said after the talks with the U.S. President. 

She said, the U.S. Department of State intends to send an interagency team to Tbilisi at the beginning of December to discuss with the interim government, how the United States can help them prepare for upcoming elections and work on other issues of critical importance to Georgia.  

?The United States is interested that Georgia has good relations with the United States, as well as with other countries. I stressed a positive role of Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov in the recent developments in Georgia. At the same time, President Bush said that in case of any danger Georgia can apply to the U.S. Administration and the assistance will be immediate,? Nino Burjanadze said. 

?The U.S. President hopes that the Georgian people will manage to overcome the existing crisis,? the interim President added.
