Protesters Lay a ‘Peaceful Siege’ on President’s Office

Tens of thousands of protesters joined hands to form the live chain surrounding the President’s office this evening demanding Eduard Shevardnadze’s resignation.

“We will lay a peaceful siege on Shevardnadze’s office,” Mikheil Saakashvili said, while addressing crowd of estimated 35 thousand.

The opposition leaders called the protesters for calm and for avoiding any contact with the police and riot police units deployed in the area.

“If the people continue this kind of protest rallies, it is anticipated that in several days Shevardnadze will resign,” Mikheil Saakashvili said.

While the thousands of protesters are participating in a ‘peaceful siege’ of the President’s office, another part of protesters remains in front of the Parliament building.

Earlier dozens of National Movement opposition party staged a protest inside the Central Election Commission building to protest the ballot rigging.
