Georgian Orthodox Church Offers Mediation to Resolve Crisis

In his statement Catholicos of the Georgian Orthodox Church Illia II urged the political parties and the authorities to resolve the current standoff between the government and opposition peacefully through dialogue.

Georgian Orthodox Church offered the politicians its mediation. However the opposition is doubtful over the Church involvement in the political debate.

Parliamentary Chairperson and opposition leader Nino Burjanadze told Civil Georgia “the Church should not be involved in the political events.”
