Opposition Leaders to Discuss Joint Measures to Protect Votes

Leader of the National Movement Mikheil Saakashvili called on other opposition leaders to meet on November 4 to discuss joint measures to prevent the authorities from manipulation of November 2 parliamentary election results.

“The government and the President try to steal our votes. We – the opposition leaders – should do our best to protect our votes and the votes of our supporters,” Mikheil Saakashvili said on November 3.

With results from about 44% of polling stations counted, Central Election Commission (CEC) claims that the pro-presidential bloc For New Georgia received 24,3% of the votes.

The opposition National Movement bloc led by Mikhail Saakashvili was coming in a close second with about 23,4%.

While according to the parallel vote tabulation results, conducted by the election observer NGO International Society for Fair Elections and Democracy National Movement leads the elections with 26,6%; For New Georgia is second with only 18,9%.
