Opposition Threatens with Rallies

The Georgian opposition parties met on November 4 to discuss joint measures to prevent the authorities from manipulating the November 2 parliamentary election results.

The meeting, which was initiated by Leader of the National Movement Mikheil Saakashvili, was held with the participation of the National Movement, the Burjanadze-Democrats election bloc, the Unity led by Jumber Patiashvili and civil society representatives. The New Rights did not participate in the meeting.

The participants of the meeting condemned the authorities for mass ballot fraud and threatened to hold a protest rally if the Central Election Commission (CEC) did not submit real results of elections.

Zurab Zhvania, leader of the Burjanadze-Democrats election bloc, called on his supporters to gather at the Philharmonic Hall in the center of Tbilisi, while the National Movement urged its supporters to meet at the Tbilisi Municipality today in the evening.

Under the results of voting by the Central Election Commission (CEC), the pro-presidential bloc For a New Georgia has 25,9%, the National Movement – 23,6%, and the Burjanadze-Democrats – 8,9%.
