Wanted Defrocked Priest Shows Up
Defrocked Orthodox priest Basil Mkalavishvili, wanted by the police for numerous attacks against the religious minorities, has shown up and met with his parish today.
Court sentenced Mkalavishvili in June to three month pre-trial detention. He faces charges of organized violence against Jehovah’s Witnesses and Baptist-Evangelists and burning their religious literature over a period of several years. However the police failed to detain him so far.
Today Basil Mkalavishvili was accompanied by Guram Sharadze, member of the presidential-backed election bloc For New Georgia, who runs for MP in one of the Tbilisi’s single-mandate constituency.
