U.S. Welcomes Progress in Joint Projects with GUUAM

After the talks held on September 26, Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Elizabeth Jones and the ambassadors of the five GUUAM countries [Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine, Uzbekistan] agreed to the next steps for implementing joint projects designed to improve regional security and encourage economic development.

High representatives of the GUUAM member states and the U.S. discussed U.S.-GUUAM cooperation and progress on the U.S.-GUUAM Framework Program.

The projects, which are aimed at increasing security in trade and transport and combating trans border crime, will have concrete benefits for the people of the GUUAM member states, noted Assistant Secretary Jones.

“The United States welcomes and supports the decision of GUUAM to seek observer status in the United Nations General Assembly,” the joint statement issued after the U.S.-GUUAM meeting said.
