CIS Peacekeeper Abducted in Western Georgia
Russian private, serving in the peacekeeping troops, deployed in the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict zone under the auspices of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), was reportedly kidnapped on September 27 in the town of Zugdidi.
Zugdidi is a frontline town near the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict zone. The motives of kidnapping remain unclear.
However, the local police do not rule out that the incident may have been staged to mask a desertion.
