Energy Deals, Election Code, Budget to Heat up Debates in Parliament

(Tbilisi, August 5, 2003, Civil Georgia) – Parliamentary special session today will continue discussion of the recent energy deals in Georgia, concerning the Gazprom and Russian Unified Energy System entry in the country.

Last week the MPs tried in vain to receive information regarding the AES decision to sell its assets in Georgia directly from Energy Minister Davit Mirtskhulava, which refrained to appear in the Parliament despite MPs categorical demand.

The Parliament this week will also to continue debates over the new Election Code. Last week Parliament !
failed to approve Baker’s Plan on composition of the Central Election Commission as the pro-Presidential factions as well as the Revival and Industrialists voted against.

The MPs also intend to discuss the controversial draft of cutting of budgetary expenditures submitted by the government to the Parliament on August 4.

All these issues cause controversy among the MPs, thus heated debates are anticipated this week in the Parliament.
