US-Trained Commandos Sent to Breakaway South Ossetia as Peacekeepers

(Tbilisi, July 11, 2003, Civil Georgia) – Up to 80 servicemen of the US-trained Commando Battalion joined the Georgian peacekeeping battalion deployed in the breakaway South Ossetia on July 10.
 
The Georgian Defense Ministry reports, the commandos will be deployed on the checkpoints in Nikozi and Kurti and conduct joint patrolling along with the Russian and Ossetian peacekeepers.
