Opposition, Pro-Governmental Faction Fail to Narrow Gap on CEC
(Tbilisi, June 4 2003, Civil Georgia) – Despite the agreement between the opposition and pro-governmental Parliamentary factions to discuss the issue of disbanding the Central Election Commission (CEC) in the evening on June 3, the sides failed to start discussion of the issue at the Parliamentary session.
The consultations between the opposition and the pro-governmental factions ended yesterday without any results.
The MPs will try to reach agreement at the Parliamentary session on June 4.
The opposition demands disbanding of the CEC. The Chairman of the commission and several other members of the CEC filed the resignation on June 3.
