Georgia to Take Part in Iraqi Post-War Reconstruction

(Tbilisi, May 30 2003, Civil Georgia) Georgia intends to take part in the post-war reconstruction of Iraq. On May 23 the Georgian delegation participated in the seminar in London organized by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Great Britain government.

The seminar discussed the issues of post-war reconstruction of Iraq, as well as the ways and means of participation of the Anti-Iraqi Coalition member states in rebuilding Iraq’s infrastructure. USAID has already revealed eight direct contractors.

The Georgian side was represented at the seminar by Ambassador to the Great Britain David Mamatsashvili and Deputy Director of the National Investment Agency of the Ministry of Economics Giorgi Gaganidze.

Georgian Minister of Economics Giorgi Gachechiladze said the Investment Agency would help Georgian companies secure contracts for reconstruction work, adding that the companies should win the contracts themselves, since the Ministry would not participate in this process.

“Georgia is ready to supply the Iraqi population with water and building materials”, – the Minister stated earlier at the press conference in Tbilisi.
