Parliamentary Committee Concerned Over Corruption in Customs Department
(Tbilisi, May 15, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Parliamentary Committee on Tax and Revenue discussed today situation in the Georgian Customs Department.
Chairman of the Committee David Salaridze said that the observation of statistics proves existence of “alarming level of corruption” in the Georgian Customs Department.
“According to the Customs Department only 50.000 tones of fuel is imported in Georgia during 2002, while the annual consumption of the fuel in Georgia consists at least 200.000 tones,” Davit Salaridze told the reporters after the Committee meeting.
“Alarming level of corruption in the Customs Department is the reason of this statistic,” he added.
