Russian Interior Minister Says Terrorist Centers in Chechnya, Georgia

(Tbilisi, May 7, 2003. Civil Georgia) – The Russian media sources report, Russian Interior Minister Boris Grizlov told Journalists on May 7 that during the G7 and Russia Interior and Justice Ministers summit in Paris, the participants concurred that “there are international terrorism centers in Chechnya and Georgia”.

Nicholas Sarkozy, French Interior Minister said at the summit Al-Qaeda network is “very disorganized, particularly after the Afghan campaign and its operative centers might have moved, towards Chechnya and Georgia”.
Georgian Security Ministry stated that allegations of the French interior minister, regarding possible moving of the Al-Qaeda centers from Afghanistan to Georgia are groundless.

“Currently we can only say that the State Security Ministry and the Georgian law enforcing agencies to everything to prevent penetration of the terrorist to Georgia and particularly to Pankisi gorge” – Nika Laliashvili, spokesman of the Security Ministry told Civil Georgia on May 6.
