Turkish Airlines, Georgian Authorities Fail to Agree

(Tbilisi. April 14, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Representatives of the Turkish Airlines, which held talks with the Georgian authorities and the Georgian Airzena company, failed to resolve the problems concerning restriction, and following cancellation of flights in Georgia.

Before March 30, the Turkish Airlines and was conducting three flights a week between Tbilisi and Istanbul. But with the decision of the Georgian Civil Aviation Administration, their flights were limited to two a week until April 15, with following cancellation of their flight permissions.

The Aviation Administration adopted the decision pursuant to the February 27 decree of the Parliament, according to which the tax privileges to the Turkish lack the legal grounds.
 
Turkish embassy in Tbilisi reported today that the Turkish Airlines offered the Georgian side to conduct joint flights with Airzena to 76 countries via Istanbul and restore three flights of Turkish Airlines between Tbilisi and Istanbul in a week.

However, according to the Turkish embassy Airzena was categorically against demanding only two flights for the Turkish company in a week.

Georgian side also demands conclusion of agreements between the Turkish Airlines and the Georgian flagship company on payment of the compensation for conduction unilateral flights between Tbilisi and Istanbul. Turkish Airlines agrees to conclude such an agreement.
