Abkhaz Prime-Minister Steps Down as Death-Sentenced Prisoners Escape
(Tbilisi, April 7, Civil Georgia) De facto prime minister of Abkhazia Genadi Gagulia is reported to have stepped down after jailbreak from some seven prisoners, including the ones sentenced to death, became public.
In recent days, Abkhaz de facto government has been in crisis, as influential political and paramilitary groups demanded resignation of the current government. A high-profile jailbreak is understood to have tipped-off Gagulia resignation against the background of general tension.
Georgian authorities do not comment possible implications of the resignation on peace process in Abkhazia.
