Georgia Supports US, Despite Russia’s Concern

(Tbilisi. March 26, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Georgian Foreign Minister Irakli Menagharishvili told the reporters on March 25 Georgia will not change its position towards the US-led war in Iraq, despite Russia’s concern.

“Georgia will fulfill its commitments towards its allies,” Foreign Minister said.

Secretary of the Georgian National Security Council Tedo Japaridze said upon his arrival from Moscow on March 25 that the Russian authorities expressed concern regarding Georgia’s decision to allow coalition’s planes into Georgian airspace.

Russian Foreign Ministry delivered statement of protest on March 22 to the US embassy in Moscow concerning the overflights of the US spy plane U-2 over Georgia, 20-30 kilometers away from the Russian airspace.
