Georgia to Pay Partial U.N. Debt to Avoid Losing Vote
(Tbilisi February 25, 2003. Civil Georgia) – President Shevardnadze has ordered the government to ensure partial payment of Georgia’s USD 7 million debt to the United Nations, the Georgian Foreign Ministry reported today.
Georgia’s ambassador to the UN Revaz Adamia said in the interview to the independent Rustavi 2 TV channel that the UN could deprive Georgia of its vote if the debt was not paid.
According to the Foreign Ministry Georgian President had recently sent a written request to the Foreign and Finance Ministries asking for partial payment of the debt.
