Georgia Reinforces Border with Russia

(Tbilisi February 24, 2003. Civil Georgia) – Georgian Border Guard Department will establish additional checkpoints at Ingush, Chechen and Dagestan sections of the Russo-Georgian border.

According to the Border Guard Department additional checkpoints will be established by the beginning of spring.

Georgian authorities expect infiltration of the Chechen militants into Georgia in spring. Georgian law enforcers intend to carry out a new phase of anti-crime operation in Pankisi gorge in order to maintain stabile situation in the gorge and prevent penetration of the militants into Pankisi.
